Turner & Looch (with Special Guest Emerson Forde) - Episode 5

Turner & Looch - Episode 5, featuring special guest Emerson Forde

This week we're joined by the one and only Emerson Forde from Colourful Radio (check out his film review show every Thursday). Join us as we discuss the week's releases (including Unstoppable, Machete, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest and The American), some exciting Movie News, the Oscar documentary shortlist and a number of new trailers.

Apologies once again for sound quality. This week we were evicted from our venue mid-podcast and had to take it to the streets. Because that's how we roll, innit. Sticking it to The Man and so on.

Index (m:s):

00:00 - 02:09 - Intro - Emerson Forde introduced; list of topics for this week's show discussed (see above);

02:09 - 09:05 - Review of Unstoppable (aka The Train That Couldn't Slow Down); Forde and Turner attempt to list every Denzel Washington / Tony Scott collaboration; relative merits of Unstoppable related; SPOILERS included (but legitimate ones, as they're about the way the film lets you down if you've seen the trailer); bit with the horse spoiled; astonishing never-before-heard name-drop by Looch; claims that Unstoppable based on a true story questioned; joke about Rosario Dawson stolen from MovieJuice (sorry, MovieJuice); rating for Unstoppable agreed upon; Denzel's oh-so-hilarious Top Gun 2 joke

09:05 - 16:05 - Review of Machete, which Emerson hadn't seen; "It's like Robert Rodriguez didn't get his own joke"; trailer for Machete, including godawful "Machete don't text" line; Machete panned; Machete vs Black Dynamite; exploitation films discussed; SPOILERS revealed again (but again, only in the context of the way the film doesn't deliver on the promise of the trailer); conclusion reached: if you've seen the trailer, you've seen all the best bits of Machete; soundtrack rejected; idea of Jessica Alba in a catsuit ruminated upon; Ann Margaret randomly introduced; Stanley Kubrick's The Killing even more randomly introduced

16:05 - 20:10 - Review of The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest; Dave Edwards' poster quote ("The Thriller of the Decade!" ridiculed; discussion of upcoming Fincher remake; remakes of second and third film doubted; discussion of who might win Best Director Oscar come Oscar-time (note: pretty sure Emerson means The Parole Officer with Steve Coogan rather than The Social Worker with Paul Hogan)

20:10 - 24:04 - Review of The American; trailer for The American; familiarity of the plot discussed; argument about the meaning of the word "liaison"; more SPOILERS (sort of); idea that the poster and trailer seem to promise a different film agreed upon; The American = better thriller than Hornets' Nest (take that, Edwards)

24:04 - 24:56 - Review of An Ordinary Execution (which Cassam and Emerson haven't seen)

24:56 - 25:55 - Review of Leap Year (not to be confused with Amy Adams Leap Year), which Cassam and Emerson also haven't seen; CORRECTION: director is Australian / Mexican not British as I mistakenly say here

25:55 - 30:54 - London Boulevard discussed, unseen; Colin Farrell praised; merits of Daredevil debated (Turner hates it, Looch loves it); Looch's Colin Farrell impression unleashed; accents debated; Guess The Impression; "You're a bad man, Mister Burns"; Looch's astonishing accent ability presented for your delectation; good British accents from American actors discussed; lame name-drop from Turner

30:54 - 32:40 - Turner's Most Hated Actor revealed (clue: it's Gerard Butler); bad actors discussed

32:40 - 47:00 - MOVIE NEWS! "Ah never learned to read!"; podcast takes uncomfortable direction, racial stereotype-wise; discussion about Cats & Dogs II being somehow included on the Best Animated Feature shortlist; Chico & Rita sympathised with; Oscar documentary shortlist revealed (36:46); "I'm waiting for him to start quoting lines from The Jerk..."; potential Best Animated Feature Oscar nominations discussed; Cassam's Oirish accent busted out; Spider-Man casting news; Dennis Leary's casting as Captain Stacey scorned; "No-one is a better choice for J. Jonah Jameson than J.K. Simmons"; Brandon Routh out of the running for Superman; Cassam's potential as The New Superman discussed ("They could white him down!"); Smallville's Tom Wellings' suitability for Superman debated

47:00 - 50:00 - TRAILERS - Sucker Punch trailer excerpt; Sucker Punch trailer discussed; Turner & Looch's mutual love of the Lemony Snicket soundtrack revealed; Olivia Wilde-spotting credentials tested (Turner wins and here's the proof)

50:00 - EVACUATION SEQUENCE ACTIVATED!

50:01 - 53:30 - Venue changed; burritos consumed; podcast taken to the streets; Cowboys & Aliens trailer discussed; concerns expressed due to Favreau cocking up Iron Man 2

53:30 - 56:36 - Red Riding Hood trailer discussed; similarities to Twilight movies remarked upon; Looch sensationally reveals that he prefers the Twilight movies to the Harry Potter movies; burritos reminisced about

56:36 - 59:20 - Trailer for 13 (remake of Tzameti) discussed; cast listed

59:20 - 64:00 - Emerson's Best of 2010 list revealed (some of it, anyway); 2011 released discussed; Cars 2 debated; True Grit screenings questioned; general rough-housing

64:00 - 64:32 - Outro
